Work Study
Through the federal Work Study program, you may be able to gain both valuable employment experience and funds to help meet your educational expenses. Work Study is not mandatory, but it is a good opportunity to earn an income while you are earning your degree.
How Work Study Works
- When you apply for financial aid, you will be told if you are eligible for Work Study aid.
- If you are eligible and you want to participate, you will need to apply for a job.
- The amount of the award varies according to financial need.
- Funds are paid directly to the student in the form of a bi-weekly paycheck.

On-Campus Work Study
Many on-campus work opportunities exist for students with varying levels of experience and skills. Select a location to see current openings:
Fowler Family Southside Center
The minimum hourly wage for on-campus Work Study at Northampton Community College is $7.25 per hour. Students may work up to 15 hours per week during the academic year and up to 25 hours per week during the summer.
Work Study Through Community Service
You can make a difference in your community while earning money for your studies. Students eligible for Federal Work Study can participate in the Community Service and America Reads / America Counts programs. Students who participate in these programs perform important work as reading and math tutors, library aids and recreational assistants at local elementary schools, libraries, and boys and girls clubs.

The minimum hourly wage for Community Service positions is $8.15 per hour. Students may work up to 15 hours per week during the academic year and up to 25 hours per week during the summer.
