On January 25, student leaders from the Office of Residence Life from Northampton Community
College joined Lehigh University, Moravian College, and Cedar Crest College students on an interactive trip to our nation's capital to learn about Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. and the civil rights movement of the 1960s.
The theme of the trip was "Old Challenges, New Realities." Before the bus ride, students were given different-colored wristbands and placed in certain sections of the bus depending on the wristband they wore. Those who sat in the back of the bus were treated poorly, while the riders in the front of the bus were treated with respect. This experience gave students insight into what individuals felt during times of segregation and inequality.
Once in Washington, D.C., the group visited the Lincoln Memorial, the Thomas Jefferson Memorial, and the Martin Luther King, Jr. Memorial.
