Veterans Oral History

Veterans that need to complete all necessary paperwork with the Student Veterans Services Assistant for payment of VA Education Benefits will need to know what chapter benefit they are entitled to receive. Full Disclosure of Entitlement Guidelines are available.

Chapter 30

You are eligible if you enlisted after July 1, 1985; your pay was reduced by $100 per month for the first 12 months of service; you have an honorable discharge; and you have not exceeded the 10-year delimiting date.

Chapter 31

Veterans who suffered a service-connected disability while on active duty and need vocational rehabilitation as a result of their disability (normally 20% or greater) may be eligible for benefits. Contact the VA Vocational Rehabilitation Counselor at the VA Outpatient Clinic, Hamilton Blvd., Allentown PA for an appointment at 610.776.4304. Get more information.

Chapter 33

Post-9/11 GI Bill - Effective August 2009 for all Active Duty, Reservists and National Guardsmen who have served on active duty for more than 90 days since 9/11/2001. Based on months served, entitlement ranges from 40% to 100%, for payment of T&F, Book and Housing Allowances.

Chapter 33 TOE

Post-9/11 GI Bill for all dependents and spouses of Active Duty veterans who have had a pre-determined number of months of education benefit entitlement transferred to them by a veteran family member. Transfer of entitlement must be approved through the veterans' branch of service.
PLEASE NOTE: Basic Training is not classified as active duty and may not be counted.

Chapter 35

Survivors and Dependents Educational Assistance for dependents of veterans (spouses and children ages 18-26) are eligible if the veteran has a 100% service connected disability or the veteran's death was service connected.

Chapter 1606

You are eligible if you incurred a 6-year enlistment in the Selected Reserves or National Guard after July 1, 1985; completed the initial active duty training; are serving in good standing of your unit; and you have not passed the 14-year delimiting date.

Chapter 1607

Reserve Education Assistance Program (REAP) for members of Selected Reserves or National Guard units who were called to active duty for at least 90 days after 9/11/2001 in response to a war or national emergency as declared by the President or Congress.
