Though the inner workings of a law office are similar to that of other businesses, a law office is also a place where staff members must be prepared to deal with busy lawyers and concerned or distraught clients on a daily basis. Legal administrative assistants must be familiar with the basic essentials of law and legal terminology. They are staff members who must learn how to be attentive to client needs and must be productive in pressure situations.
The curriculum in NCC's program provides students with the fundamentals they will need in assisting with the daily operations of a firm. Transcribing and formatting legal documents and business correspondence, filing, law library maintenance, applying court rules and maintaining strong public relations skills when dealing with other law offices and courts are all covered in the degree program.
The program is capped with a valuable internship experience that could potentially help graduates find employment with an area firm, insurance or title company, corporation, or government agency. Students may also opt for the legal office specialist diploma, which offers career-specific course work for those looking to complete their studies within two semesters.
