The Secondary Education Math & Science program is designed for students who intend to teach specifically mathematics or subjects related to the field of science at the high school level. High school is a critical point for education in both mathematics and in the sciences, as students are preparing for college entrance and success in the labor force. For teachers, it is especially important to recognize those students who struggle with the STEM field (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics), as those students who are successful with these courses are more likely to attend college than those who are not. It is up to teachers to change students' perceptions that math and science fields do not relate directly to their future; a solid STEM education can provide students with innovative and creative ways to problem solve and apply what has been learned.
The Secondary Education Math & Science program is designed for students who intend to transfer to a four-year bachelor's degree program. At the transfer institution, students will take advanced courses leading to a degree and certification for grades 7 through 12. The program is offered at both the Bethlehem and Monroe campuses, with day and evening classes available.
