Because math is everywhere, a solid understanding of math is critical to education and career. Comprehension of mathematics is also one of the cornerstone general requirements for those seeking a degree. Students in the program will also learn how math and science principles apply to the world by being taught to see past numbers and formulas.
Program majors explore computer science, calculus, physics and English, with both a physics and math option available for the final 12 credits. The physics option consists of general chemistry courses, while the math option gives students the ability to choose from available electives. Those with a background in math and science can expect to find employment in business, industry, government, fields of research, higher education, private industry, laboratories and more. Recent surveys show those with math degrees have a strong probability of finding career success in a number of high paying fields.

Your Career in Math / Physics
Northampton's program prepares graduates for immediate employment as laboratory aides or technicians, as scientific assistants, or in technical sales. Graduates of the two-year program, however, are heavily influenced to continue their studies by transferring to a four-year program. Four-year graduates who have transferred to one of NCC's partner institutions have earned degrees in fields as diverse as chemical or geological engineering, mathematics, and oceanography. Many will also find successful careers in secondary mathematics education.
Mathematicians and physicists work in the federal government and in private science and engineering research. They work on teams with engineers, scientists, and other professionals.
