It's tough for teenagers to focus on their math and writing skills while they are stressing about their identities and futures.
"Teachers support students while introducing the content they love," says Nancy Moreau, professor of education. "Teachers spark students' interest in careers and prepare them for the world."
Secondary education is important, she notes, because it supports students through their adolescent years. "Teachers understand cognitive development and help students make the right decisions."
"If you like working with people, are helpful and have a subject passion, you are a good candidate for a teacher," she says.
