Research projects garner awards for dental hygiene students

Seven students recognized at state conference

At the Pennsylvania Dental Hygienists' Association Annual Conference held November 5-9, 2014, in Monroeville, PA, 31 of Northampton Community College's second-year dental hygiene students presented their tabletop research group projects.  Of the 75 competing groups, the following awards were presented to NCC students:

2nd Place: "Probiotics Help in Fighting Oral Diseases"  by Elena Goranova and Austin Lee

3rd Place: "The Right to Know About GMO" by Amanda Bennett and Megan Sholl

Honorable Mention: "Dental Neglect:  Define, Diagnose and Report" by Breanna Connell, Emily Onuschak, and Patrick Rossi

"Congratulations to all dental hygiene students on an awesome job representing Northampton," said Sherri Meyers, director of the NCC's dental hygiene program.

The students practiced their presentations during the October 23 dedication of a classroom in memory of Dr. Arnold Cook  in the Fowler Family Southside Center, where the dental hygiene program is located.
