While vacationing in South Africa in December, Nate Carpenter, assistant director of international education at Northampton Community College, arranged a luncheon for NCC alumni living in or around Johannesburg. The gathering went on for hours. The alumni were eager to tell Carpenter - who is relatively new to NCC - where they had come from, what they loved about NCC, and what they are doing now. The South Africans studied at Northampton as part of a State Department-funded scholarship program called the Community College Initiative. All are now working in jobs related to their majors.
