Students Meet with Immigration and Customs Enforcement Chief

An Afternoon with Joe Arata

Joe Arata with NCC Leadership Students

Northampton Community College students in the spring leadership development program met with Joe Arata, Chief of Strategic Recruitment within Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).

Arata was in the first unit deployed during Operation Desert Shield. He began his career at the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) before transferring to U.S. Customs and Border Protections (CBP). Today he is responsible for the strategy, direction and operational coordination of all recruiting at ICE as well as all of ICE's Veterans Programs.

Arata traveled from Washington, D.C., to spend time with NCC leadership students and share with them his own personal leadership style.

Students were chosen at the beginning of the spring semester for the leadership development program through a competitive selection process. They meet every week for presentations and exercises led by faculty, staff, and community leaders.
