Kristen Cervenak, Journalism major, thinks everyone has a story to tell
Kristen Cervenak has had a lifelong love of writing and newspapers. A chance meeting with a journalist who impressed her with the importance of truly listening to others - rather than just hearing - led her to NCC to pursue a degree in Journalism, Media & Professional Writing.
"Every person has a unique journey and story," Kristen believes. "To be able to share the words and wisdom I've received from others is a huge driving factor for me." The best thing about the program for her is the ability to publish her articles in NCC's student newspaper, The Commuter, for which she is editor-in-chief. "Every time I see one of my articles in print, it gives me further story ideas," she says.
After NCC, Kristen plans to pursue a bachelor's degree in journalism, and possibly a master's degree so she can inspire college students as a teacher, she says, "the way my professors at NCC have inspired me."
Kristen advises students considering the Journalism, Media & Professional Writing major to never be afraid to ask questions or share their work. "Truth is a beautiful thing, as are the connections you can make with people. So much has come from constructive criticism and pushing myself outside of my comfort zone. It can only make you a stronger journalist."
