Robert van Thiel enjoys providing a welcoming environment for customers at work
Whether he's crafting cocktails for customers, selecting Italian craft beers, or maintaining the Wine Spectator award-winning wine list, as beverage director for Molinari's Mangia in Bethlehem, Robert's favorite part of the job is "seeing the smile on a guest's face when they take their first sip, or when they return time and time again because of the above-and-beyond service I've given."
Robert came to NCC because of the reputation of its culinary program. He loved that the hands-on aspects of his Hospitality courses were intertwined with real-world applications in the community, and opportunities to visit hospitality meccas like New York City, Chicago and New Orleans.
He also found the faculty excellent. "Everyone from President Mark Erickson to the instructors represents NCC's culture: putting students first." His favorite instructor in the program, Rebecca Heid, "made the curriculum relevant and brought out the best student in me." Robert recommends NCC to anyone, whether they're interested in a career in hospitality or something else. "NCC is always on the cutting edge."
