Adrianna Vazquez '14 has just completed an internship made possible by a grant from Air Products. "The grant provides as stipends for five students to intern with local non-profit organizations," says Janice Kenyatta, the experiential learning and internship manager at NCC. "This is the first time NCC has received the award, which has been given to other area colleges and universities."
When Kenyatta learned that the Cancer Support Community of Greater Lehigh Valley was looking for a marketing intern, she sent the information to associate professor of business Wendi Achey, who recommended Vazquez. A marketing major, Vazquez met all the criteria for the Air Products internship, submitted an essay, and was selected to be the first NCC Air Products intern.
In addition to receiving a certificate and a stipend, Vazquez also got an excellent commendation from her supervisor.
"It was a good learning experience," Vazquez says. "I learned the pace of a non-profit organization, and how to use resources when there isn't a large budget. I had to reach out to businesses for donations." Vazquez plans to continue her education at Kutztown University, where she'll major in marketing and advertising.
