October 31, 2013
The Halloween celebrations started early at Northampton Community College. On October 21, the pumpkin carving contest opened in the Student Life Zone. Treats in the form of flex dollars were awarded to the winners: Katelynn Houseal and Charis Trauger, first place, Chantell Monroe, second place, and Dylan Brown, third place.
Storyteller Charles J. Adams, author of books on the supernatural, entertained on October 25 with tales of local spirits. The audience did get a trick when at one point Adams made everyone jump in their seats!
To calm the goosebumps later that night, a treat in the form of a hayride to the NCC East 40 Community Garden was offered. Once there, students had a chance to enjoy s'mores, cider, and hot dogs.
Those in the mood for chills and thrills were dared to walk down the Haunted Hallway in College Center. Screams echoed throughout the hall as zombies and other ghouls bent on tricks roamed relentlessly looking for victims.
Students figured if you can't beat 'em, join them, and they danced the night away at the "Dance with the Dead Dance Party" in the Student Life Zone featuring a DJ, food, and prizes!
The things that go bump in the night up at the Monroe Campus got into the spirit of Halloween, too. A dance party was held on October 25, too, and featured dancing, food, and fun! And on Halloween, horror classics "Nosferatu" and "Night of the Living Dead" were shown.
A Halloween surprise -- Acta Non Verba zombies dancing to "Thriller" -- occured on October 31 in the Quad, with a repeat in the Student Life Zone.
