Student Life at Northampton Community College knows how to throw a Super Bowl party! All the elements were there: wings, (root) beer pong, games, prizes, entertainment, and, most importantly, enthusiastic party-goers! The event, held on Tuesday, January 31, in the Student Life Zone, was also a club fair, offering attendees an opportunity to check out and sign up for over 50 student clubs.
Master of Ceremonies and Student Senate President Tim Semonich introduced the entertainment. Julian Castillo sang and played guitar for a Civil War-era piece. Oscar Duarte performed an amazing one-man rendition of Abbott and Costello's classic "Who's On First?" bit. Zahra Josie sang a crowd-pleasing cover of Alicia Keys' "No One." Acta Non Verba dancers performed.
Games and contests included a football toss, flicker football, a "super fan" attire competition, and the crowd favorite, a hot wing-eating contest. After consuming his plateful well in advance of the other contestants, winner Maalik Cohen told the audience, "I've been eating wings all my life -- this was nothing! Let's give a shout out to the chef!"
Sodexo chefs also put the "soup" in "Souper Bowl" with a selection of NFL-approved choices: Giants yankee bean soup, Patriots Eastern shore crab soup, and Eagles Philly cheesesteak soup.
