Remembering Nelson Mandela at NCC

December 11, 2013

The world mourned after learning of the death of Nelson Mandela, who fought peacefully against the system of apartheid in South Africa and went on to become that country's first black president.

For South African students studying at Northampton Community College, it is a difficult time to be so far from home. To pay tribute to Mandela, the students created a slide show presentation that will be on display in the Student Life Zone on the second floor of College Center beginning December 9. A memorial service for Mandela will be held in College Center, Room 220,  on Thursday, December 12, from 11 a.m. to noon.

NCC student Katlane Seema, born and raised in South Africa, shares her thoughts about what Nelson Mandela did for her country in this moving YouTube video.

Stop by the Mack Library to see a time line about Nelson Mandela's life as well as a book display.
