"The more that you read, the more things you will know. The more you learn, the more place you'll go." - Dr. Seuss
If this Dr. Seuss quote is true, children from Northampton Community College's children's centers will travel the globe one day!
A love of reading is fostered in children in both the Hannig Children's Center on the Monroe Campus and Reibman Hall at Main Campus at an early age. The children were able to share this love with community visitors during the "Week of the Young Child," an annual celebration sponsored by the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC). The purpose is to focus public attention on the needs of young children and their families and to recognize early childhood programs and services that meet those needs.
Monroe County Commissioner Suzanne McCool visited the Hannig Family Children's Center at NCC-Monroe on April 15 to read to the youngsters.
State Representative Joe Emrick stopped by Reibman Hall Children's Center on April 16 to read to the children there.
They both read "The Bus for Us" by Suzanne Bloom. It is Pennsylvania's "One Book, Every Young Child" 2013 selection.
The fun is not over! Children and their families are invited to celebrate the joys of books and reading at the Cops 'n' Kids "Celebration of Reading" on Saturday, April 20 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at NCC's Fowler Family Southside Center and the nearby areas. Free food, music, crafts, and of course books are all part of the fun!
