If life hands you a lemon, make lemonade. If Mother Nature forces the cancellation of spring break by sending a polar vortex, pound down some passion fruit punch.
The weather outside was far from tropical in Bethlehem, PA, on March 17. In fact, another snow storm was in the forecast for what was supposed to have been the first day of spring break.
The storm went south. Students didn't, since they had to make up a week's worth of classes, but when they stepped into the Food Court, they were greeted warmly by Sodexo Food Service Manager Bob Meyer, decked out in a grass skirt and oversized sunglasses, serving up free drinks (non-alcoholic, of course) adorned with drink umbrellas, from behind a drink cart in the shade of faux palm trees.
Stunned at first, the students quickly got in the spirit of the spring break surprise, donning the leis that Meyer provided and sticking the umbrellas in their ski caps before heading back to class. This "spring break" began like no other. Rumor has it, students have some "alternative spring break" plans of their own. Check back for updates.
