ECE is an open-door program. However all ECE students must complete the following program requirements:
EARL106 Introduction to Early Childhood Education or a Specialized CDA or SACC Diploma is a pre/co requisite for all ECE courses.
NCC English and Math Placement Tests: It is best to take these exams before entering the program, but they may be completed during the first semester.
Students completing labs at Reibman Hall or Hannig Children's Center or sites selected by NCC must submit:
- Current Health Assessment: PA students may use the NCC Early Childhood Health Assessment form (PDF) or PA DPW form (PDF). The Health Assessment must be updated yearly. Signed health forms are sent to: NCC Health Center, 3835 Green Pond Road, Bethlehem, PA 18020. This must be completed before your first class. If not completed by the third week of the semester you will be withdrawn.
- Clearances: Students completing lab at Reibman Hall and Hannig Family Children's Centers must provide a current copy of a Criminal History Record and Child Abuse Registry Clearance Forms (DPW Code § 3720.192.)
- References: Two written references which detail your character and ability to work in a caring, nurturing way with children. References may be former teachers, employers, neighbors, etc. Family members may not be used as a reference (DPW Code: §3270.192). Send Clearances and References to: Early Childhood Education Department, 3835 Green Pond Road, Bethlehem, PA, 18020. This must be completed before your first class. If not completed by the third week of the semester you will be withdrawn.
- Understanding of Participation: Students completing labs at their place of employment must return this form. The signatures ensure that you have a cooperating teacher and an acceptable classroom environment and support for completing your ECE lab class work.
