
The NCC Featured Author Series Presents Holly M. Wendt
11:00am-12:30pm in College Center 114Author Holly M. Wendt will share their journey from inspiration to publication for Heading North. This acclaimed novel tracks a queer, closeted hockey player rebuilding his life in the NHL after losing his clandestine boyfriend and former team in a catastrophic plane crash. It’s a story about public and private grief on the global stage of professional sport and the personal costs and collateral damage inherent in social change.
Wendt will discuss their training as a writer, describe the publication process, and offer tips and tricks for getting started on and persevering through creative endeavors. Q&A to follow. This event is free and open to the public.
Author Bio:
Holly M. Wendt is Associate Professor of English and Creative Writing and Director of Creative Writing at Lebanon Valley College. Wendt is a recipient of fellowships from the Jentel Foundation, Hambidge Center, and the American Antiquarian Society and is a former Peter Taylor Fellow in fiction at the Kenyon Review Writers Workshop. Their work has appeared in Passages North, Shenandoah, and elsewhere. Their sports-based nonfiction has also appeared in Bodies Built for Game: The Prairie Schooner Anthology of Contemporary Sports Writing, The Rumpus, and Sport Literate.
