Students from East Hills help harvest the Community Garden
It's harvest time and seventy-five students from East Hills Middle School learned that food doesn't just "appear" in the grocery stores! They helped to harvest the "Three Sisters" crop (squash, corn and beans) on October 31 at Northampton Community College's Community Garden.
The students also had a chance to learn about the garden's bee hives and tour the greenhouse. Check out all the fun in this photo gallery!
Want to join in? Stop by the Community Garden on November 6 at noon for Harvest Fest!
The College is partnering with five school districts, libraries and historical societies, including the Bethlehem Area School District, in a year-long exploration of "Agriculture and the American Identity." Harvesting is one of the activities. The program is funded through a grant from the National Endowment for the Humanities and private contributions.
