The past fall, the Northampton Community College (NCC) Ski Club Advisor and Professor, Kevin Manna, volunteered at the Heroic Killington Cup in Killington, VT, which is a stop on the Audi Women’s FIS Ski World Cup Tour. For each of the last 5 years, Manna has volunteered for the Audi Women’s FIS World Cup Ski Races in Killington,VT.
“One year, I was at the finish line working the race. The timekeeper and the person I was working with were the only people in this restricted area. The sound of 20,000 people in the crowd from that spot on the course was amazing. It gave me chills as Mikaela Shiffrin, the hometown favorite, won the race.”
The Heroic Killington Cup held at Killington Resort brings together some of the most elite professional women’s skiers. The race, held Thanksgiving weekend, includes entertainment, vendors and live music. It’s the largest attended professional women’s ski race, attended by a huge crowd of 37,000 people and broadcast LIVE on NBC and internationally.
Volunteers at the race are known as members of the Beast Crew since Killington’s nickname is the Beast of the East. Manna helped with the build-out of the entire event. This included grandstand, power, fencing, banners, athlete tents, logos, access areas, and more. NCC Ski Club was highlighted in the program as some of the outstanding volunteers that made the event possible.
