Scott Storm, Northampton Community College (NCC) HVAC/R student, is dedicated and ambitious. Choosing to specialize in commercial HVAC repair versus repair in residential settings, his dream is to work on intricate systems that regulate the climate for bustling businesses. His ultimate goal is to provide stability and a promising future for his growing family, a fiancé and 5-year-old son, and this career path should allow him to do just that.
Balancing academics, a part-time job, and family responsibilities wasn't easy, but Storm knew the significance of every lecture and lab session. He never missed a class, understanding that attendance and determination were the stepping stones to his dreams. He said, "I’ve definitely learned time management because that was the key to success in my work and studies. This program is very educational but takes a lot of hard work.”
The hands-on labs in the program were Storm’s favorite. They allowed him to delve deep into electrical work, perfect soldering techniques, understand heating systems intricately, install solar panels, and more. “The professors at NCC were more than mentors. They were willing to invest extra time to ensure each student truly comprehended the craft,” he said.
Storm's perseverance didn't go unnoticed. He was honored to receive the prestigious Fred and Marcia Squire scholarship, which eased the burden of college expenses.
The program taught him more than technical skills. "The program has taught me not to give up on myself and capabilities. If you put in the time and effort, anything is possible.”
