NCC Business Students Take First Place

Northampton Community College (NCC) business students took home first place at the Council for Retail and Sales Case Competition at DeSales University this spring. Congratulations to the students who represented NCC as “Northampton Consulting Group” or NCG, comprised of team captain, Vincent Kovacs, Tyler Mack, Ian Pearn, and Javier Jaramillo Nunez.

“The NCC team did an exceptional job showcasing their leadership, commitment and applied learning skills in the Intercollegiate Council for Retail and Sales Competition. Their first place award was well deserved and a true test of the knowledge and skills they developed at NCC," said faculty mentor for the competition, Wendi Achey, NCC professor of business and marketing.

NCC competed against eight other teams from four-year colleges including DeSales University, Thomas Jefferson University, Penn State University, and Bloomsburg University. The competition required the teams to first develop a written executive summary on the organization, "The Theory of 5," and then present their recommendations to a panel of five judges. Following their presentation, the students met with the judges to answer questions for 15 minutes.

Team NCG represented NCC professionally and illustrated strong knowledge of the concepts and application of theories they experienced in their courses. During the award ceremony, the judges conveyed that NCC’s presentation stood out from the competition, especially with their recommendations of a new slogan and their creative brochure. Judges also noted a clear synergy illustrated by the team.
