Grad Spotlight: Jenny Ro

Jenny Ro, a business administration major at Northampton Community College (NCC), has served as president of her Phi Theta Kappa chapter and is a presidential ambassador representing the college at various events and guiding other students as they complete their own journeys at NCC. This spring, she was named a 2024 Coca-Cola Academic Team Bronze Scholar and will receive a scholarship based on her academic achievement, leadership, and engagement in college and community service.

Ro will be this spring’s Pocono campus commencement ceremony speaker and will offer advice to her peers based on her own life experiences. She grew up in a household that was impacted by drug abuse, violence and generational cycles of trauma. “Although I never want these events to fully define the individual I am today, I have always taken comfort in the concept that we as humans have the control and ability to make the conscious decision to grow in spite of life’s tragedies,” she says.

Ro will pursue her bachelor’s degree at a local university upon graduating from NCC. She'd like to become a human resource manager, helping to resolve conflicts and bridge opposing perspectives in the workplace. The field will allow her to draw on her strengths in managing people and ensuring proper communication between all parties.

In addition to pursuing a human resource career, Ro would like to work in real estate. She feels that the skills taught under a human resource management degree can also provide support for real estate professionals in managing clients and interacting with other agents.

“During my time at NCC, I have had the opportunity to take on various leadership roles that have taught me the value of hard work. Most importantly, I have learned how to seek out opportunities instead of waiting for them to come to me. I grew up watching my dad sacrifice time, money, and physical labor in order to invest into his business. It is thanks to him that I was able to adopt a similar work ethic that will serve me well in my future endeavors,” Ro says.
