Northampton Community College (NCC) Summer Theatre won several awards for their performances. Lehigh Valley Press’s annual awards for achievement in Lehigh Valley Theater recognized NCC Summer Theatre with four ABE awards. This is the 19th year that Lehigh Valley Press recognized exemplary community theater with the ABEs, which stand for Allentown, Bethlehem, Easton. Summer Theatre also took home five 2024 BroadwayWorld Philadelphia Awards. The BroadwayWorld awards recognize regional productions, touring shows, and more.
The musical "MAMMA MIA!" won BroadwayWorld's Best Choreography of a Play or Musical, Best Dance Production, Best Lighting Design of a Play or Musical, Best Scenic Design of a Play or Musical, and Best Sound Design of a Play or Musical. NCC Summer Theatre won four ABEs for choreography in "West Side Story" along with costume design, scenic design, and lighting design for the production of "Fiddler on the Roof.”
The Lehigh Valley Press also recently highlighted the late Bill Mutimer’s impact on NCC’s Summer Theatre program. The college’s Summer Theatre production of “Fiddler on the Roof” was given special mention as a “heart-warming and well-rounded production.” The musical was dedicated, in part, to Mutimer who played Tevye in a 1999 production at Pennsylvania Playhouse. Also named as a favorite college play was, “The Laramie Project,” which was called “impassioned and filled with raw emotion.”
Congratulations to everyone involved for their outstanding artistry and dedication and for continuing to elevate the arts in our community!
