Four honors students at Northampton Community College (NCC), Emily Eisenhard, Olivia Collumb, Marianna Mancuso, and Carmine Picone, showcased their work at the Northeast Regional Honors Conference (NRHC) in Harrisburg this March. The conference features presentations from honors students at 200 colleges and universities across several Northeastern states, Puerto Rico, and parts of Canada.
NRHC provides its members with opportunities for the exchange of information and ideas through its annual conference, which is dedicated to the engagement and support of honors undergraduate learning. NCC students who completed an outstanding project or assignment are encouraged to submit their work for consideration for the NRHC. Once these four students were accepted, Abigail Michelini, English professor and honors program director, assisted them in preparing and practicing for the conference.
The students created presentations on a variety of topics. Mancuso presented “Women In Horror: Exploring How Femininity is Portrayed in the Horror Genre," Picone explored "Augmented Reality-Assisted Surgery: Medical Integration and Impact,” and Collumb profiled the former first lady with "Mary Todd Lincoln: A Life and Legacy."
Eisenhard presented "A Sacrificial Offering" as an interactive art exhibit and a research poster on "Creating Community through Murals." She won the Creative of the Year Award, which recognizes superb creative work presented at the conference.
“I am so incredibly proud of these four students. Not only did they do exceptional work at NCC, but they stood out among their peers at this competitive honors conference. This experience will set them up for further success as they move on to transfer schools and their ultimate career choices,” said Michelini.
Congratulations to all four of these students for presenting their thoughtful and creative work!
