An Important Deadline is Coming Up!

March 31st is the NCC priority deadline for FAFSA

FAFSA

Deadlines, deadlines, deadlines…if you are a student you know all about them.  This is an important one.  March 31st is the Northampton Community College priority deadline to submit your financial aid application (FAFSA) for the coming 2019-2020 academic year.

The FAFSA for 2019-20 became available October 1, 2018, and requires students and parents to provide tax information from 2017 (two tax years ago).  Students and parents are advised to use the electronic process within the FAFSA (called the IRS Data Retrieval) to electronically transfer their 2017 tax information to their FAFSA application, whenever possible.  If the IRS Data Retrieval is used the school rarely needs to collect additional documentation from the applicant since the accuracy of the information is already assured through the transfer.  If you are unable to use the IRS Data Retrieval (situations like fraud alerts, recent marital status changes and other unique situations can cause the Retrieval to be unavailable for some filers), you can enter the information yourself but may need to provide additional documents to the school after your FAFSA is processed.

As long as you provide all required documentation, filing by the NCC priority deadline assures that your application will be processed and you will receive notice of your eligibility before the tuition due date for the Fall 2019 semester.  If you miss the NCC priority deadline of March 31st, submit your FAFSA as soon as possible.  In addition to the NCC Priority FAFSA deadline of March 31st, the state grant program administered by PHEAA requires that first time community college students submit their FAFSA no later than August 1st and continuing community college students must file by May 1st to be considered for state grant assistance.

Help completing the FAFSA application is available from NCC Financial Aid staff.  Students can receive in-person assistance at either the Bethlehem or Monroe campus and are encouraged to make an appointment by contacting NCC Financial Aid at 610-861-5510.
