Grad Profile: Tasha Davis

Tasha Davis, an English major at Northampton Community College (NCC), chose her field of study for its versatility and potential for career and transfer opportunities. For Davis, NCC offered an ideal combination of small class sizes, flexible scheduling, and diverse literature courses. She values the personalized education she received, describing it as “just as good as larger colleges, if not better” due to the attentive professors and supportive learning environment.

Davis faced significant challenges during her time at NCC, including financial instability, a lack of family support, and mental health struggles. Scholarships like the R. Dale & Frances M. Hughes Scholarship provided essential financial support for her time at NCC. Davis joined Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society’s Beta Beta Chi chapter at Pocono campus, which provided comradery among her peers.

While at NCC, Davis grappled with the hurdles of memory loss caused by electroconvulsive therapy, used to treat her post-traumatic stress disorder. “It’s not easy to remember certain details, like numbers for instance,” Davis says.

Reflecting on her time at NCC, Davis advises future students to “start small, even if it’s just one class at a time. “You can be a part-time student and still be serious about your goals. You’ll get there in time.”

Davis also tells students to use the resources available to them, like the writing tutors at the Learning Center, their advisor, and their professors. “Allow the other students in your classes to become a resource which adds to the curriculum. You gain a lot from hearing about literature and writing from people who have different backgrounds and experiences than yourself.”

As a behavioral health technician at a drug rehabilitation center, Davis is already making a positive impact on others. However, her aspirations reach further.

Davis plans to pursue a bachelor's degree in communication sciences and disorders, followed by a master’s in speech-language pathology, with the goal of becoming a speech therapist. She’s hoping to attend Princeton University in the future, but she will be applying to colleges after graduating from NCC.
