Zuzanna Solarz was born in a small village in central Poland. She spent most of her childhood in Warsaw where her parents moved to give her and her brother better opportunities. After a difficult senior year of high school faced with watching her father battle cancer, she decided to leave Poland and explore the world she had been curious about.
“My travels opened my mind and my heart for other cultures and people around me. I came to the United States in March 2020 to experience my long-anticipated backpacking trip around the East Coast. When the COVID-19 pandemic started, my flight back home was cancelled, and I had to face the global crisis in a foreign country.” Solarz said it was hard to navigate a new environment under such extraordinary circumstances; however, it was an experience that taught her many valuable lessons.
Solarz became a part of the local community and decided to work towards a better future by enrolling at Northampton Community College (NCC). She is a full-time business administration major supporting herself financially by working full-time in a restaurant. She chose her major because she believes it will provide a solid foundation that will help her succeed in continued studies.
Solarz plans to pursue a bachelor’s degree in international business. She says, “I see myself becoming a part of an organization with global influence. Being fluent in English, Spanish and Polish allowed me to connect with people from various cultures and I believe that diversity is what makes us stronger as a community.”
