At Northampton Community College (NCC), our student life programming allows you to meaningfully engage with your academics and your community — both on and off campus and in your life after college.

The Office of Student Life and Leadership Development offers a variety of on-campus, off-campus, and virtual programming. Our mission is to create a student-centered environment led by Student Senate and Governance, recognized student clubs, the leadership society, and targeted leadership development programs.

Our vision is for every student to be involved and engaged in purposeful activities to achieve balanced physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual growth. NCC Student Life also provides leadership opportunities and trainings to help students develop the essential skills they need in the next phase of their academic or professional journey.

Student Life's foundation includes:

  • Supporting the appreciation, understanding, and advocacy for equity, diversity, and inclusion in conjunction with the College’s position statement on diversity.
  • Developing meaningful life skills, encouraging personal achievement, and developing involved and responsible citizens.
  • Understanding that social outlets and fun student activities can develop valuable skills.

Emerging Leaders Seminar Series

Each semester, we run the Emerging Leaders Seminar Series which involves a variety of speakers in different industries focused on leadership. In collaboration with Alumni Relations and the Center for Career Development, we have also provided students with sessions that include a networking and career exploration component for different fields of study.

All sessions of the Emerging Leaders Seminar Series are free and include refreshments.

You may elect to attend as many or as few as you'd like. Students who attend the full series are eligible for a certificate and letter of completion. We also host an etiquette luncheon at the conclusion of the series as an opportunity for students to learn and practice business meal and dining etiquette.

Challenge yourself to think differently, grow as a person, and elevate your leadership skills by participating in NCC’s leadership conferences. You’ll have the opportunity to network with local leaders, learn more about different career fields, and enhance modern leadership skills with dynamic and interactive workshops.

Some events that we have hosted in the past include the RISE Leadership Conference with workshops and a keynote speaker and TEDxNorthampton Community College which featured a variety of diverse talks presented by Lehigh Valley experts and pioneers in their fields.

Engage in leadership self-assessments and self-exploration, network with high-profile Lehigh Valley leaders, enhance your résumé, and increase your confidence and public-speaking skills in the Spring Leadership Class, a 10-week non-credit course offered each spring semester.

To apply for this competitive program, submit an application and at least one letter of recommendation during the fall semester. If you are a finalist, you will receive an invitation to an interview. The final cohort consists of approximately 16 students.

Some topics covered in the course include:

  • The 5 Practices of Exemplary Leadership
  • Leading with a Diversity, Equity, & Inclusion Lens
  • Managing vs. Leading
  • Stages of Group Development
  • Authentic, Civic, and Servant Leadership
  • Storytelling as a Tool for Inspiring a Shared Vision
  • Conflict Management & Resolution
  • Self-Care & Leadership

Previous off-campus trips have included:

  • Martin Guitar
  • Bethlehem Mayor’s Office
  • Northampton County Government
  • Wind Creek Bethlehem

Thanks to the generosity of the NCC Foundation, all course materials, transportation, and light meals are provided to students at no cost.
