Attend NCC’s Orientation Part 1

Before registering for classes, your first step is to attend Orientation Part 1 Getting Started: Preparing for Advising and Registration.

During this one-hour virtual session, you will learn about critical financial aid information, how to submit your transcripts and take your placement tests, and available resources as well as review how to log in to your Workday Student Portal and access your NCC student email. Accepted Students: Pre-Semester Checklist

Before your first semester, please complete the following steps.

Whether you're a new or returning student, you’ll be assigned an academic advisor to help plan your courses, understand your program requirements, and determine how your credits will transfer to NCC or another institution.

Please note: You must meet with your advisor before registering for classes.

While guest/visiting students do not receive an assigned advisor, they are encouraged to use drop-in advising services.

Workday Student Portal

Whatever your financial situation, we recommend applying for financial aid each year to see whether you qualify for grants, student loans, work-study, and other types of aid.

After submitting the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), you can check your aid status and accept aid by logging in to your Workday Student Portal and reviewing notices in your inbox.

When it’s time to pay your tuition, you can locate your bill in the “Finances” section of your student portal.

Need additional support? NCC’s Financial Aid Office is here to help. Give us a call or send us an email to connect with our aid experts.

If you have questions about your education-related expenses, contact the Bursar's Office. This office handles various matters, from tuition billing to meal plans to tax reporting.

Review the Academic Calendar for important semester dates, including semester start and end dates, final exam timing, college closures, and more.

Multiple calendars are listed for fall, spring, and summer. Be sure to look at the calendar(s) corresponding to the courses you registered for (14-week, Accelerated I, Accelerated II, Mid-Semester, etc.).

Before the semester begins, review your course schedule to confirm when and where your classes meet:

  1. Log in to your Workday Student Portal
  2. Navigate to “Academics” under "Your Top Apps"
  3. Under "Planning & Registration," click "View My Courses"
  4. The next page will list your course schedule and information about your course meeting times, locations, format, and more.

Our bookstore has all the required books, making it easy to prepare for your NCC classes. To shop, click "Textbooks—Shop by Course" and search for your courses.

To find your course section number, follow these steps:

  • Log in to your Workday Student Portal
  • Click "Academics" under "Your Top Apps"
  • Under "Planning & Registration,” click "View My Courses"
  • The next page will list your course schedule. The "Section" column will list your courses and section numbers. Example: "ENGL 101-02" means that the course is "ENGL101" and the section number is "02."

Please note that Pocono campus courses will be listed under the Pocono campus, but all other courses are listed under Northampton Community College.

Some courses may include an electronic textbook as part of your tuition bill. If you look up these courses on the bookstore website, a section note will explain this, so you know not to purchase them.

General Rule: Do not open your textbooks until your professors confirm you will need them. Sometimes, your professor will put copies of the required textbook in the library for student use. You may use financial aid to purchase or rent course materials.

You can also return your textbook if you do not need it.

  • Students are automatically enrolled in NCC Text Alerts. This will alert you if there are any school closings, delays, or emergency notifications.
  • It is important that you log in to your Workday Student Portal to make sure your contact information is correct. Click on your photo/cloud icon to view your profile, then click on the “Contact” tab. Make sure your primary phone number is a mobile number and that it is marked as mobile.
  • Students can access their course pages on Brightspace about three days prior to each course's start date. Open Brightspace and log in using your NCC credentials (the same username/password you use for Workday).
For any tech-related questions, contact our Information Technology Services Help Desk for support.

When getting ready for your classes at Northampton, please complete the following steps:

  • If you have a disability, you can contact our Accessibility Resource Center to inquire about receiving accommodations.
  • Start exploring your course Brightspace pages. Most online courses and many on-campus courses use Brightspace. Brightspace is a website that any computer, tablet, or smartphone can access. It is strongly recommended that you use the Google Chrome Browser to access it. Although there is a mobile app, it does not provide the same content as the website does. The website should be the primary way that you access course content.
About three days before your course start date, you'll be able to log in to your Brightspace course page. To access these pages, log in to Brightspace and select your course from the course page. Some instructors may not give course page access until closer to the start date. Contact the Helpdesk if you still need access on the first day of the course.
  • Look over your course syllabi. Syllabi for most online course sections will be listed on Concourse shortly before the semester begins. Use the advanced search options to find specific courses and review your syllabi. Instructors may also email your syllabus near the start of the semester and/or post it on their Brightspace course page.
  • Read all communications from your NCC instructors. They often send a start-of-semester message, either on Brightspace or via email, providing details on how to get started with their specific course.

  • Obtain Your Student ID: As an NCC student, you are required to carry a student ID with you when on our campuses. Submit your photo electronically and receive your NCC ID at the mailing address you provide within five to seven business days.
  • If you need to update your name in the NCC system, please review our requirements and instructions for requesting a name change.
  • Please complete the Starfish Intake to help us better understand the support you need. Our video provides more information on how to complete this survey.
