The Center for College and Career Readiness has been the deliverer of English as a Second Language and GED programs for over 30 years, serving the Lehigh Valley and Pocono Counties. Our classes prepare students to improve their English, obtain their GED®, enter employment, retain employment, and advance to postsecondary education and training. Programs are offered in-person and online.

Community English as a Second Language (ESL) classes are designed for non-native speakers of English who want to improve their ability to communicate in English at home or at work. Classes focus on reading, writing, speaking, listening, numeracy, and digital literacy.

Community GED® Test Preparation classes are designed to provide instruction in Social Studies, Mathematical Reasoning, Science, and Reasoning through Language Arts in order to prepare students to pass the GED® or HiSET® test and receive a Commonwealth Secondary School Diploma.

Community Adult Basic Education (ABE) classes are designed to provide instruction in reading and math in order to prepare students to enter GED® Test Preparation classes or to provide additional support for those students seeking to advance to postsecondary education or employment.

Community Integrated English Literacy and Civics Education (IELCE) classes are designed for non-native speakers who want to improve their ability to communicate in English. Classes focus on reading, writing, speaking, listening, numeracy, digital literacy, civics, citizenship, health and wellness, and consumer economics. Students may be eligible to obtain free training in high-demand occupations.

ESL for the Workplace is intended to help designated ESL employees gain confidence speaking English during their jobs, increase productivity, and build rapport with their improved ability to communicate and get their point across. This class includes work-specific dialogues and role-playing, life skills and conversation, oral practice, pronunciation help, and suggestions on how to continue the learning process outside of the classroom.

ESL for Healthcare is designed for non-native medical professionals or aspiring medical professionals who require English language skills specific to the healthcare field. The purpose of the course is to help students build vocabulary and strengthen the listening and speaking skills that are essential to success in English-speaking health-care organizations. Students will study key medical terminology and practice using it in speech and writing. Through readings, role-plays, listening activities, and discussion, students will learn how to communicate effectively with patients and coworkers in English-speaking hospital or clinical settings. This is a fee-based course.

ESL for Manufacturing is designed for individuals with basic English language skills who need to learn job-specific language related to manufacturing and production. This course prepares students with the manufacturing related language skills needed to pursue a new career in manufacturing or to expand their current job language skills. This is a fee-based course.

Spanish GED® classes prepare students for the official Spanish GED® Test. The class will focus on Social Studies, Mathematical Reasoning, Science, and Reasoning through Language Arts.
